DepEd Grading System Philippines
Schools calculate grades using weighted raw scores from various assessments, ensuring that each component accurately reflects student performance.
The minimum passing mark is 60, which is then transmuted to 75 on the report card. This transmutation aligns raw scores with standardized grading scales, ensuring consistency across evaluations.
Additionally, schools implement a floor grade policy, meaning 60 is the lowest possible grade recorded for students. Students in Grades 1–12 are evaluated based on the following:
- Performance tasks
- Written work
- Quarterly assessments
Curriculum DepEd Grading System in Philippines
Introduced in 2012 alongside education reforms, the K–12 grading system standardizes the measurement and reporting of student performance. It encompasses the entire assessment process, including written tasks, performance outputs, behavior during evaluations, and quarterly progress reports.
This structured approach ensures consistency, fairness, and transparency in grading outcomes, allowing students to clearly track and achieve their K–12 curriculum grades based on defined criteria.
Department Education Department (DepEd) Grading System
The Department of Education (DepEd) grading system in the Philippines, which was implemented under the K–12 Basic Education Program in 2015, adopts a competency-based approach to assess student performance.
Grades are computed using weighted raw scores across various assessments, reflecting students’ knowledge, skills, and understanding. The lowest passing raw score is 60, which is transmuted to 75 on the report card, according to a standardized transmutation table.
This system ensures comprehensive evaluation for learners in Grades 1–12. While DepEd mandates these guidelines for public schools, some private institutions may adjust the grading system according to their own educational policies.
How to Compute and Record the Learner’s Progress
Kindergarten Learners Progress
Progress for kindergarten learners is assessed using observation-based tools rather than numerical grades. Teachers use checklists and anecdotal records aligned with curriculum standards to track each child’s skills, behavior, and participation.
A student portfolio containing artwork, activity sheets, and writing samples provides clear evidence of development over time.
These methods allow teachers to evaluate whether learners are meeting expected competencies and demonstrate progress in a holistic, child-centered manner.
Grades 1 – 12
For Grades 1–12, each academic quarter includes one Quarterly Assessment, along with ongoing Written Work and Performance Tasks. These components assess students’ understanding, skills, and application of learning throughout the term.
While there is no fixed number of Written Work and Performance Tasks required, schools distribute them evenly throughout the quarter. This approach ensures continuous assessment and a balanced evaluation after each unit.
General Computation of Average and Final Grades in DepEd
Step 1: The total raw score for each grading component, including Quarterly Assessments, Performance Tasks, and Written Work, is recorded. These raw scores are then converted into percentage scores to standardize the results and allow for consistent comparison across components.
Step 2: To calculate your Percentage Score (PS), divide your obtained score by the total possible score, then multiply the result by 100 to convert it into a percentage.
PS=Possible Highest ScoreStudent’s total raw score×100%
Step 3: Multiply your Percentage Score (PS) by the assigned weight for each component to calculate the Weighted Score (WS). This ensures each component contributes proportionally, based on its importance in the subject’s overall assessment.
WS = PS × Weight of Component
For 1-10 Grades, the Component’s weight is:
| Component | LanguagesAPEsP | ScienceMath | MAPEHEPP/TLE |
| Quarterly Assessment | 20% | 20% | 20% |
| Performance Tasks | 50% | 40% | 60% |
| Written Work | 30% | 40% | 20% |
Wight of Senior High School (SHS) Components, specifically for Grades 11-12
| Core Subjects | Academic Track for All other subjects | Academic Track for Research, Work immersion, Performance, Exhibits | TVL/ Arts & Design Track, Sports for all other Subjects | TVL/ Arts & Design Track, Sports for Research, Work immersion, Performance, Exhibits |
| Quarterly Assessment | 25% | 30% | 25% | 20% |
| Performance Tasks | 50% | 45% | 40% | 60% |
| Written Work | 25% | 25% | 35% | 20% |
Step 4: The weighted score (WS) of each component is combined to determine the student’s initial grade. This initial grade is then converted into the Quarterly Grade (QG) using the official transmutation table.
| Initial Grade | Transmuted Grade | Initial Grade | Transmuted Grade |

Step 5: QG (Quarter Grade) appears on the student’s report card and reflects performance based on summative assessments for that grading period.
A sample class track record, such as from the first quarter, helps illustrate how these assessments are compiled and translated into final grades.

How to Compute Grades
- To compute your grade, first determine your percentage score (PS) by dividing your raw score by the highest possible score and multiplying by 100.
- Next, convert this percentage into a weighted score (WS) based on the assigned component weight.
- Add all weighted scores from each component to get your initial grade.
- Finally, transmute this initial grade using the official grading table to obtain your final grade.

The DepEd Grading System provides a standardized method for measuring students’ academic performance across schools. It helps track learning progress, identify strengths and gaps, and guide instructional decisions.
Regular updates ensure the system stays relevant to evolving educational needs and standards. Students’ performance and improvement are closely reflected in their grades, making them a key indicator of learning effectiveness.
